Our Rescues
Since 1995 we've worked with shelters and rescue groups in several states. Our focus has been on the massive breeds, selecting specific dogs at shelters to provide financial assistance to assure their care and a guarantee they will not be put down prior to adoption, and assisting in finding homes for them.
One of our first, we adopted ourselves in 1997. Berber (the Berbs) was found abandoned in a field south of Kansas City. He was about two years old, was severely under weight and had obviously been abused. From that time until he died in late 2006, he was Jon's 24/7 companion.
The "generic" photo we put in the photo holder of our urns actually is not generic at all, but a photo of Berbs that I took on an icy early morning at the park. I was fortunate that I had put the digital in the pocket of my parka and the light hit just right. It would later signify his road to the Rainbow Bridge. He was a huge loss to both of us.
We rescued Kato the cat in 2000 from a feral cat litter on a farm at only five weeks old and was going to be put down. Kato was raised by Berbs and to this day thinks he's a dog.

After Berbs passed, the Pyr Rescue here called to see if I would look at one of her rescues. Paco was three years old and was found in a cage in a basement. The owner was getting a divorce, had a new baby and could no longer care for him. Her ex had abused him physically resulting in a completely torn rear ACL and a horrible ear infection from being whacked across the head when he howled. He struggled to even get up, and walking was a chore.
We adopted him Oct 13, 2006. He is now 185 lbs and is 100%. I really never imagined that we could get his leg rehabbed, and figured it would be a short time before I'd have to assist him with a handicap harness. His recovery was quite amazing.
